Quantum Physics and the Art of Magic

agic science What has quantum physics got to do with magic? That was my first question when I was asked to become acquainted with it. Then I started researching and I was struck by how it answered another question, how does magic work? Quantum physics answers both these questions and this is how.

NOTHING IS WHAT IT SEEMS
Magic is the manipulation of energy to create a desired effect; this is done by what is known as entanglement. Entanglement[1] states that properties of one particle can immediately affect those of another regardless of the distance between them. Theoretical physicists assert that entanglement is real and no hidden-variable theories can explain its weird effects.

Quantum Mechanics states that nothing is what it seems but rather a bunch of probabilities that could or could not hold true until we decided to make it true by viewing it. This was discovered in the Double Split[2] experiment which shows that particles being shot through two slits change their behaviour simply when viewed by an experimenter. Therefore, we control outcomes simply by focusing on desired effects. We create what we want or need by first imagining it, seeing it in our mind, believing in it, and then by willing it into motion. Our world is not determined until we decide what we want it to be. This explains how depression brings misery and mishap while positive outlooks create opportunities. We can manifest our reality by simply choosing to believe in it. Therefore we are all witches, magicians, alchemists, wizards and shamans, albeit for most, unaware and untrained; we bend the world to our will.

Quantum Mechanics asserts that the underlying structures of the matter and energy we manifest as is continuous, interconnected and non local in nature[3]. WE ARE whatever the underlying structure is behind the interconnected wave pattern described in Quantum Mechanics. WE ARE ONE OF THE SAME. Everything that occurs is a Quantum Mechanical event, including the act of being conscious; this being the activity of our synapses and synaptic pathways in our brains.

M-Theory[4] is considered the mother of all theories that explains the universe. It is an adaptation of String Theory which describes all elementary particles as vibrating strings with different modes of vibration producing different particles[5]. The M in M-Theory stands for, magic, mystery or matrix depending on taste, and theoretical physicists postulate that it could be the Unified Field Theory; The Theory of Everything[6]. The premise of String Theory is that the four fundamental forces of nature, being gravity, electromagnetism, strong nuclear, and weak nuclear forces, as well as all matter are simply different manifestations of a single essence. The heart of energy and matter is thought to be made up of vibrating strings that exist in a multi-dimensional hyperspace. These extra dimensions are curled up into tiny pockets inside observable space[7], existing in the now, all around us and within us.

Magical ritual is therefore a Quantum Mechanical event. We purify our surroundings and our minds to rid any interfering resonances. We then clear our minds so as to clearly focus on our intent. What we call “Trance State” or “Magical Trance” as Peter Carroll[8] calls it, is a non-localized state of consciousness. We meditate on the elements, the non-local essences, assisting our minds to resonate powerfully non-locally. Doing this connects our minds to the resonances pattern intimately with the non-local web of wave patterns connecting everything. The best way to imagine this is to think of the forest in the movie Avatar and how it was all connected through a web of chemical activity. Invoking deity connects our minds to a powerful, established, non-localised, intelligence resonance matrix that joins in the magic.

To summarise and simplify this, Quantum Physics states that the only reality is here and now, outside of this is a myriad of probabilities. One of these probabilities only becomes reality when we view it; it then becomes the here and now. It also says that all matter is made up of the same essence; that being a vibrating string, how it vibrates determines how it will look. Magic is described as the manipulation of the environment around us. By focusing our intention on a desired probability and directing invoked or evoked energy towards it we cause it to become reality. Put this way the relationship between Quantum Physics and Magic is simply using the theoretical knowledge of how matter and energy reacts and applying this in a determined way.
